In India, Summer Vacation varies in duration. This is because India is a vast country and different parts of the country face different climatic conditions at the same time. In northern India, school ends in mid-May and begins by the last week of June, except in the Kashmir valley where the summer vacation is only for ten days with a long winter break from mid-December to the end of February. In Central India, especially in Maharashtra, the summer vacation begins in mid-April and school re-opens in mid-June. Moreover, the vacations last for no more than a month and a half in most schools. The duration decreases to as less as three weeks in higher classes. Inclusion of special classes and projects make it unfruitful in the purpose in Senior Secondary classes. Daily homeworks are often allocated to students of all age and abilities. However, in colleges, the duration can go back to 2 months, basically to give way to internship programmes.
